Did ‘Game of Thrones’ Season Finale Reveal Jon Snow’s Real Name?

(Spoiler alert: Do not keep reading if you did not see the Season 6 finale of “Game of Thrones”)

“Game of Thrones” finally revealed Jon Snow’s true parentage in the Season 6 finale, but it may have also revealed his true name.

We know that Jon is in fact the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, and we see Lyanna whisper something to Ned on her deathbed as she hands him her child. Now, a redditor is claiming that Jon actually has a Targaryen name as well.

“I’m not a great lip-reader, but I’m fairly certain what she says is Jaehaerys,” reddit user sparkledavisjr said. Jaehaerys is the name of two previous Targaryen kings.

Jaehaerys I was known to be a wise ruler, which adds some credibility to the theory. If Lyanna and Rhaegar were in fact in love, they would want their son to have a strong family name.

However, the same redditor admits that there are other possibilities for what Lyanna was saying. “”I just want to add that some hard of hearing viewers have suggested that Lyanna may be saying ‘His name and his house,’ which is also a distinct possibility.”

The theory also relies on the assumption that Lyanna was in love with Rhaegar. If Rhaegar did just kidnap her and hold her prisoner, she would probably want her son to have a Stark name.
