‘Detroiters’ First Look: Sam and Tim’s Awkward Morning Show Adventure

Now that the underrated gem Detroiters has landed a second season from Comedy Central, it’s time to discover what you’ve been missing. The comedy about two small-time admen (Veep‘s Sam Richardson and Saturday Night Live‘s Tim Robinson) — which has “as much heart and soul as jokes and wackiness,” according to Yahoo TV Critic-at-Large Ken Tucker — returns for a new episode tonight, and we’ve got a first look.

In “Dream Cruise,” Tim and Sam’s employees threaten to quit due to a lack of health insurance — so they do everything they can to raise money to buy coverage, including launching a T-shirt company. If only they weren’t so bad at writing slogans … and appearing on live TV. “We watch you all the time,” Sam tells Nadine, the host of Good Morning Detroit. “Not, like, in a stalker way … you know? Not like a person who’s, like, obsessed.”

And it just gets worse from there. Especially when it’s time for Sam and Tim’s friends Lea (Lailani Ledesma) and Tommy Pencils (Andre Belue) to perform a “freestyle rap” to explain the T-shirt’s inexplicable slogan. If you’re a fan of awkward comedy, this show is not to be missed. (Bonus: This week’s episode features guest appearances from SNL‘s Cecily Strong and Michael Che.)

Detroiters airs Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central.
