'Deadliest Catch': First Female Greenhorn in the Wizard's History Makes Her Debut

It’s been a season of changes on Deadliest Catch, and there’s more to come: In last week’s episode, viewers saw Jake Anderson become a father and head off to captain the Saga after Elliott Neese entered rehab. In this week’s episode, the Wizard gets a new greenhorn: 27-year-old Amy Majors, who has experience fishing but is making her first trip on a Bering Sea crab boat.

In the sneak peek above, fans begin to see how the crew reacts to their new mate. The response runs from, “If she can do her job… sweet” to “I’m not sexist or anything, but this is a man’s game. Even some men can’t even do this. Let alone a female that's… I don’t know, she probably weighs what? 115? 120?”

Speaking with EW.com last season, when Mandy Hansen, daughter of Northwestern captain Sig Hansen briefly joined that deck, Wizard captain Keith Colburn admitted the thought of having a female greenhorn — and her not working out — made him a bit nervous: “Would you [look like] the most evil man ever? I’ve had that thought, too. There was a gal who flew to Alaska about three or four years ago. She got a hold of me in advance. She’s from Wyoming. She’s about 6 feet tall. Her arms are bigger than mine. She was, like, a Division 1 volleyball player. Raised on a farm. If there’s ever a girl that’s gonna be able to do it, it’s her. So I said, 'You know what, I don’t have any work, but you can stay on the boat, and that way you don’t have to spend uber amounts of money trying to find a job while you’re in Dutch [Harbor].’ She was diligent. She was lookin’ every day on the dock, and every day she would come back and say, 'I didn’t find anything. Are you sure you don’t need a deckhand?’ Oh my God, after about three days, I’m like, 'Oh please, please, find a job or leave.’ I just got freaked out.”

Deadliest Catch airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Discovery.
