David Letterman returns to TV with new Netflix show
What has David Letterman been doing since his retirement from late-night three years ago? Besides growing a beard and running? He’s been developing a new show. Entertainment Weekly has reported that the television icon will be hosting a six-episode series for Netflix.
It’s a surprising choice for Letterman, who hosted more than 6,000 episodes of late-night TV over 33 years, because he claimed to swear off TV in a post-retirement interview with Tom Brokaw, saying, “I couldn’t care less about late-night television.”
However, Letterman has not exactly been in hiding. He’s made several TV appearances. A notable project was with the National Geographic series Years of Living Dangerously, in which he traveled to India to highlight that nation’s investment in clean energy to combat the effects of climate change. He also recently sat down for an hourlong interview on Norm Macdonald Live.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will feature “in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humor.”
During his retirement, Letterman commented on making the untitled show that will premiere in 2018: “Here’s what I have learned — if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.”
