Corey Feldman isn’t letting the social media backlash to his “Today” show performance of “Go 4 It” get him down, and is actually planning to return to the NBC morning show in the coming weeks.
“I don’t want to rush it,” Feldman told the Associated Press. “I want it to be better than the last one. I want to make sure each performance is better and that people see it that way. This is not a game to me. It’s not a joke.”
This statement comes after a tear-filled Facebook Live video posted over the weekend, in which the former child star defended his performance and said he’s “never had such mean things said about me.” He later deleted the video.
“We can’t get out of bed right now,” he had also said, according to People. “We’re petrified to even go out… And I’m sorry, but we just wanted the world to know, like, we’re really freaked out over this and it’s really not fair.”
Feldman, a former child star famous for roles in “The Goonies” and “Stand by Me,” performed his band’s single “Go 4 It” on the NBC morning show, and had been a trending topic on Twitter all weekend. Unfortunately, his name was trending for all the wrong reasons, with people on Twitter saying they were “horrified and embarrassed” for him.
However, all the hate didn’t bring Feldman down. In the AP interview, he also said he wants to plan a world tour in support of his fifth album, “Angelic 2 The Core,” and his album sales have sky-rocketed since the “Today” show performance.
“We want to be able to do everything I have in mind, as far as the creative elements go,” said Feldman. “If we’re performing in smaller venues, we won’t be able to have back-up dancers, projections, lasers and that kind of thing.”
However, one thing Feldman wouldn’t do is participate in NBC’s “The Voice.”
“At the end of the day, I’m not the kind of person who likes to put myself up for public ridicule,” said Feldman. “Obviously, I don’t handle it very well, so I don’t think I would be good in that forum.”
