‘Community’ Movie ‘Will Happen,’ Says Creator Dan Harmon

In a recent interview on Larry King Now, the creator of the cult sitcom told the host that the NBC-turned-Yahoo Screen series “would make a great movie,” adding, “It will happen.” He hesitated, however, to lay out a specific timeframe for the theatrical follow-up.
“If I pull out a typewriter right now and write a Community movie just for my own heart and mind, then I have to go through the heartbreak and agony of finding out which of the people are going to show up to make it,” Harmon said. “On the other hand, if I wait for everybody to line up and say ‘we’re all out of work and ready to do a Community movie,’ then I guess that’s a bad idea, too.”

Harmon’s uncertainty comes as most of its stars are tied to other small-screen projects, including Joel McHale (CBS’ The Great Indoors), Gillian Jacobs (Netflix’s Love), Danny Pudi (NBC’s Powerless), Donald Glover (FX’s Atlanta), Yvette Nicole Brown (CBS’ The Odd Couple), Ken Jeong (ABC’s Dr. Ken), John Oliver (HBO’s Last Week Tonight), Jonathan Banks (AMC’s Better Call Saul) and Keith David (OWN’s Greenleaf).
At last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con, he told TVLine that the plan was to “wait a little bit, let [the cast] explore their awesome careers, and then we get together for an incredible movie.”
