‘Chicago Med’ Off To Solid Ratings Start
With the first two dramas in NBC’s Chicago franchise already renewed for next season, the newest addition, Chicago Med, made a solid entrance last night, drawing a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 8.6 million viewers at 9 PM to log the highest adults 18-49 result for a scripted series on Tuesday night in the fast nationals. (It may end up tied in Live+Same Day with CBS veteran NCIS pending adjustments). The new NBC medical drama aired behind an hourlong The Voice (2.6), which was off by a tenth from the two-hour episode last week.
The Chicago Med debut outperformed all Chicago Fire episodes that followed The Voice on Tuesday this fall though the firefighter drama airs an hour later, at 10 PM. Chicago Med also was higher than the series premieres of both Chicago Fire (1.9) and Chicago PD (2.0), but both of them aired in a different slot, Wednesday 10 PM, with no Voice lead-in. The Chicago Med opener equaled NBC ‘s highest non-Voice in-season regular-program rating in the time period in three years.
Chicago Fire also did well with its new Chicago Med lead-in. It posted a 1.9 rating, slipping just a tenth from the season high last week behind The Voice and delivering its best result without a Voice lead-in in a year.
Elsewhere, a Shark Tank repeat (0.7) almost doubled last Tuesday’s delivery of Wicked City (0.4) in the 10 PM slot. ABC pulled the serial killer drama on Friday after three episodes. Comedy Fresh Off The Boat (1.4), whose second-season order was just upped to 24 episodes, perked up, rising 8% (0.1) from last week, while The Muppets (1.2) and Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1.3) were even.
CBS’ drama lineup was off by a bit from last week. NCIS (2.1) was down 9% but may cut the dip in half with an upward adjustment in the finals. NCIS: New Orleans (1.6) was down 6%, while Limitless (1.4) was off by 7%.
The CW dramas also were down. The Flash (1.3) slipped 13% (0.2) after two weeks of season highs, while iZombie (0.5) was down by a tenth (-17%).
Fox was largely status quo, with The Grinder (0.9) inching up a tenth and Grandfathered (1.0) and Scream Queens (0.9) steady.
