Charlie Sheen Regrets Ruining ‘Two and a Half Men’

Seven months after revealing his HIV positive status, Charlie Sheen sat down with Matt Lauer once again on Today. Sheen updated Lauer on the whirlwind that has been his life since the announcement, including the extortion attempts from people who knew about his HIV. “It actually poured a little more gas on that fire that morning,” Sheen said, recalling his original interview. “They can claim whatever they want. I know the truth. They’re all sort of going back to the woodwork, where they belong you know.”

Lauer also grilled Sheen regarding lawsuits claiming that the actor had not informed several partners about his HIV status. “Are you saying that you informed every partner that you had sex with of your HIV status? Or did you not inform some people but use protection?” asked Lauer. Sheen responded, “There was two examples, but protection was always in place, and it was for the right reasons, because everyone that I had told up to that moment had shaken me down.”

Sheen is also participating in a new clinical trial to treat the virus, after unsuccessful experimentation with a controversial alternative medicine practitioner from Australia, Sam Chachoua. “That man is a criminal. He’s a charlatan,” said Sheen. “And he’s hurting a lot of good and decent people.” Lauer asked Sheen whether he had any regrets. The actor was candid and referenced the show that gave him such wide notoriety. “I regret ruining Two and a Half Men. I regret not being more involved in my children’s lives growing up, which I am now,” Sheen said. “We can only move forward from today. They wouldn’t call it the past if it wasn’t.”
