Celebs Blast Trump’s Immigration Ban at SAG Awards

President Trump’s executive order to ban immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries prompted people to protest at airports across the country, but that wasn’t the only place. At the SAG Awards Sunday night, many actors took to the stage to speak out.

It started with Ashton Kutcher, who opened the show by saying, “Good evening, fellow SAG-AFTRA members, and everyone at home, and everyone in airports that belong in my America!” When Julia Louis-Dreyfus won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy, she talked about her father being an immigrant who had fled Nazi-occupied France. Julia added, “I love this country, and because I love this country, I am horrified by its blemishes, and this immigrant ban is a blemish and it is un-American.”

Many actors throughout the night made political statements, like Sarah Paulson, who asked people to donate to the ACLU, William H. Macy, who thanked President Trump for making his character on Shameless seem normal, and Bryan Cranston, who let everyone know what he thinks LBJ would say to Trump. In his LBJ voice, Bryan said, “Just don’t piss in the soup that all of us gotta eat.”

However, the most passionate speech of the night came from David Harbour when Stranger Things won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. David ended his fiery speech with this: “We will, as per Chief Jim Hopper, punch some people in the face when they seek to destroy the meek and the disenfranchised and the marginalized. And we will do it all with soul, with heart, and with joy. We thank you for this responsibility!”
