Celebrating 15 Years of NatGeo: A #TBT Clip From 'A Cheetah Story'

The National Geographic Channel is celebrating 15 years on air today. In that time, the network has taken us around the globe, from stormy seas to the rugged mountains of the Yukon to the untamed plains of Africa.

As a #ThrowbackThursday treat, let’s go to those plains now, with this clip from the first show that NatGeo ever aired, A Cheetah Story.

“These beautiful killers lead a precarious existence,” the show notes over sweeping views of the Serengeti. We follow a cheetah mother, as she faces the impossible job of raising five cubs under the relentless sun of dry season.

She must nurse and protect her litter all while hunting food over 300 square miles. And when she spots an antelope in the distance, it’s time mother turned into the predator. The footage is a little grainy, since it was taken well over a decade ago, but astonishing nonetheless.

Happy birthday, NatGeo!
