CBS Orders Medical Drama Pilot from ‘ER’ Vet David Zabel, Ridley Scott & David Zucker
CBS has ordered a pilot for “Sensory,” a medical drama with a twist from “ER” vet David Zabel, Variety has learned.
“Sensory” is centered around a veteran neurologist and her protégé who has mirror-touch synesthesia, a neurological trait that causes him to experience other people’s sensations. The two-hander is inspired by the true story of neurologist Joel Salinas.
Zabel penned the script and will serve as an exec producer with Ridley Scott, David Zucker and Roger Freet of Foundry Media. CBS Television Studios will produce the pilot in association with TriStar Television.
Both Scott and Zucker of Scott Free Productions are currently in business with CBS — Ridley is an exec producer on the upcoming summer series “BrainDead,” and Zucker exec produces “The Good Wife.” The duo also worked on the network’s “Numb3rs” for its six season run.
“Sensory” marks a reunion for Zabel, Scott and Zucker who worked on “Mercy Street” together, which was written Zabel, who also co-created ABC’s short-lived drama “Betrayal,” following his time serving as exec producer and showrunner on “ER.”
For CBS, “Sensory” marks the second medical drama on the network’s pilot slate this cycle, joining a Silicon Valley inspired med drama titled “Bunker Hill” from “Parenthood” creator Jason Katims.
