CBS has launched a drama diversity casting initiative, a nationwide effort to find new faces for CBS’ current series and upcoming pilots.

The initiative was established to reach and foster unknown talent across the country and bring them to the attention of CBS casting executives and showrunners. From Oct. 13-28, actors ages 18 and up can submit a self-taped monologue via the company’s website.

“This outreach is a real opportunity for CBS to discover actors located across the country, outside of Los Angeles and New York, who haven’t had the chance to meet or be seen by network casting executives,” said Glenn Geller, president of CBS Entertainment.  “We’ve had great success with our CBS Diversity Sketch Comedy Showcase, which launched the careers of numerous actors, and we are confident this will do the same.”

CBS casting executives will review all online submissions and make selections for regional callback auditions. Callbacks will be held in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Miami and San Francisco, where candidates will rehearse with casting executives and be put on tape. Following the completion of the regional casting sessions, approximately 14-16 actors will be selected to travel to L.A. for a network screen test that “will be utilized for casting opportunities for current series, pilot season and beyond.”

CBS came under fire this fall for the lack of diversity among leading actors in its new fall series. Network execs vowed to take more proactive steps to cast a wider net for new talent.

The initiative builds on the CBS’s long-running Sketch Comedy Showcase. Applications may be submitted through www.CBSDiversity.com.
