Castle: Seamus Dever, Jon Huertas and 3 Others Poised to Return for Season 9
Castle continues to lay the groundwork for the post-Beckett era.
With a formal renewal decision reportedly imminent, ABC Studios has closed a new deal with Seamus Dever (aka Detective Ryan) to return for a potential ninth season, TVLine has confirmed. Additionally, fellow supporting players Jon Huertas (Esposito), Molly Quinn (Alexis) and Susan Sullivan (Martha), as well as Season 8 newbie Toks Olagundoye (Hayley), are said to be finalizing deals; all four are expected back.

Dever’s pact — first reported by Deadline — follows Thursday’s news that star Nathan Fillion is locked in for Season 9, and comes nearly three weeks after leading lady Stana Katic‘s announced departure. Co-star Tamala Jones was similarly let go. Both were reportedly axed for budgetary reasons.
ABC released a statement at the time, calling Kate Beckett “a beloved character,” before adding, “We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship. Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle.“
Katic, meanwhile, issued her own statement last month, saying, “Rather then distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans.”
