Captain’s Son Joins ‘Deadliest Catch’ and Can’t Stop Throwing Up

Deadliest Catch captain Keith Colburn invited his 20-year-old son, Caelan, along for opie season. Caelan had never been crabbing before, but he is a double major in finance and advertising at college, so he’s got that going for him.

Initially, Caelan did a pretty good job, but as fatigue began to set in, so did his seasickness. Caelan repeatedly threw up while trying to get his sea legs. This caused one of the deckhands to exclaim, “He’s supposed to be a greenhorn, not a green face.”

While watching his son fight through the nausea, Keith wrestled with how to help him, saying, “I’m gonna avoid trying to be the mother hen. It’d be real easy to spend too much time worrying about him. … I’m a captain first, dad second.”

Caelan kept drinking water and shoveling fish heads into bait bags until his nausea appeared to subside. While being seasick is miserable, the greenhorn worked through it for his dad. “I’m up here for him more than me, proving it to him that I can do it,” he said.

Deadliest Catch airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Discovery.
