A footwear company based in the City of Industry, Calif., is recalling a boot style after it was found that the soles left swastika imprints.
Conal International Trading Inc. issued a statement on its website, apologizing to anyone who was offended by the offensive symbol on the Polar Fox boot, which had been sold on Amazon.
"We would like to issue our sincerest apologies to our customers and to anyone who was offended by the Swastika imprint that the boots left behind," read the statement. "The design was not intentional and was a mistake made by our manufacturers in China. There was never any intention to include any offensive designs on the products we import. We will be investigating the issue."
The company also stated, "The boots have been recalled and we have stopped selling the item."
The apology was issued after a Reddit user posted a side-by-side photo that showed the Polar Fox boot leaving a trail of small swastikas. "There was an angle I didn't get to see when ordering my new work boots...," wrote the user, whose image has gotten more than 3 million views. Fellow Reddit users were quick to poke fun at the issue, leaving comments like, "Did they come in a size nein?" and "Very comfortable. Nein out of ten."
According to its website, Conal International Trading Inc. was established in 2001 to provide "high quality footwear at fair prices."
