As if we didn't already know that "The Walking Dead" is a monstrous hit, new ratings released from Nielsen on Tuesday show the AMC series had more young viewers and Twitter buzz than the NBC Olympics Sunday night. Who knew people prefer zombies to ice skaters?

In the all-important 18 to 49 demographic, "The Walking Dead" snatched gold with a 6.8 rating, compared with NBC's 4.9 score.

The big surprise that had fans tweeting up a storm and pushing the show to the top of the Twitter TV ratings chart: the return of Carol.

Out of the blue, Carol showed up just in time to save Lizzie, Mika, and baby Judith from walkers.

Ever since Rick exiled Carol from the prison after she confessed to killing Karen and David, fans have been hopeful that one of the survivors would run into her. Who would've thought it'd be Tyreese?

Carol's grand re-entrance helped "The Walking Dead" earn the top performing broadcast on Twitter for the week of Feb. 10 to 15. The episode titled "Inmates" earned more than 484,000 tweets, well ahead of its closest competitors, "Pretty Little Liars" and "The Bachelor."

Spencer's drug-induced hallucinations in a special film noir-themed episode helped "PLL" earn second place for the week with more than 390,000 tweets.

Over on "The Bachelor," fans voiced their strong opinions on Twitter when Clare confronted Juan Pablo about calling their previous week's ocean makeout "a mistake." Some romantics also felt bad when Cassandra didn't receive a rose … on her very special birthday. Yikes!

But in the end, nothing could top Carol's long-awaited return to the small screen. We can't wait to see (and tweet) what happens next!
