Stefano Langone Drops His Last Name, Drops Debut Single

I freely admit that when Stefano Langone was on "American Idol" last year, I wasn't really feeling him. Like, at all. But I started to understand his appeal once he was off the show and on the 2011 Idols Live Tour, when he was finally able to do his own thang. His Hi-NRG performance of Usher's "DJ Got Us Falling In Love" was actually one of the tour's overall highlights: Stefano seemed more relevant and current than pretty much anyone else in the top 11, and suddenly, I could really envision him crossing over, getting radio play, even getting on MTV. And now that I've heard his aptly titled debut single on Hollywood Records, "I'm On A Roll," I genuinely believe this guy could be "Idol" Season 10's surprise breakout star.

Wouldn't be ironic if, after controversially surviving on "Idol" longer than pimped frotrunner Pia Toscano, Stefano was the one who sold more records in the long run? I could see that happening, actually...

Dropping his surname, presumably to have the superstar appeal of Madonna, Rihanna, Ke$ha, et al, the artist formerly known as Stefano Langone and currently known as "Stefano" is joined by the New Boyz and Rock Mafia (the latter of whom have worked with fellow Hollywood Records teen-pop stars Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato) on this banging track, and the result is a totally Derulo-esque summer smash. And it's just begging for some hawt remixes. (Calvin Harris, are you reading this? Give Stefano a call.)

Stefano will perform "I'm On A Roll" on next Thursday's "Idol" results show, and I'm curious to hear how this one will sound live. (My guess is Stefano will pull off his own party rock anthem much more skillfully than LMFAO did when they catastrophically performed on "Idol" this week. However, I do encourage LMFAO's dancing zebra to make a return appearance.)

What do you think of Stefano's new single? Do you think he's got a hit on his hands?
