'Sherlock' Returns From the Dead in Season 3 Trailer [Video]

Yahoo TV

It’s official: The Cumberbatch, er, the presumed-dead Sherlock Holmes, springs back to life in the upcoming third season of “Sherlock.” And as the just-released trailer for the new season shows, Sherlock is incredulous that life has gone on without him during his absence.

“I think I’ll surprise John,” Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) tells his bro, Mycroft (Mark Gatiss), in the trailer. “Pop over to Baker Street. Who knows? Jump out of a cake.”

“Baker Street? He isn’t there anymore,” Mycroft says. “It’s been two years. He’s got on with his life.”

“What life?” Sherlock asks. “I’ve been away.”

Three other reveals from the trailer, which really should be seen in its interactive — i.e. filled with cast photos and video clips when you click on the circles that pop up during the trailer — version: John Watson (Martin Freeman) has a ‘stache; Watson is none too happy about his pal’s faked death, telling him, “I don’t care how you faked it; I want to know why”; and the timing of Sherlock’s return from the dead may have something to do with an imminent terror attack in London.

Season 3, which premieres in the U.K. on Jan. 1, doesn’t hit PBS in the U.S. until Jan. 19. British fans will also be treated to a prequel-ish mini episode of “Sherlock,” titled “Many Happy Returns,” on Christmas Day.

Season 3 of "Sherlock" premieres Sunday, Jan. 19 at 10 p.m. on PBS.
