In "Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington," Pope and Associates take on a new client — a Midwestern mom named Mary Nesbitt (Cynthia Stevenson). In this exclusive sneak peek from the episode, Olivia (Kerry Washington) ventures into a deserted congressman's office, where she finds a tearful Mary scolding the politician.

"You could've prevented this," Mary says. When she turns, Olivia is horrified to see Mary wearing C4 on her chest — and with her finger dangerously close to hitting the trigger.

"Scandal" airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
