For those who start their days with a dose of the Today show, you may have heard: Savannah Guthrie has just given birth to a baby girl.

It's her and husband Michael Feldman's first child, and NBC has yet to announce who will fill in for the expectant mom during her much-deserved maternity leave.

Although many reports point to NBC favorites like Meredith Vieira, Natalie Morales, and Tamron Hall, we can't help but wonder what the show would look like with a few unconventional co-hosts.

We found seven memorable guests who have added a little excitement, surprise, and fun to Today. Perhaps they deserve a day next to Matt Lauer in Studio 1A.

1. Pippa Middleton

Was it just us, or could Lauer not stop smiling during his world exclusive interview with Pippa? After traveling to London to meet the famous sister of Kate Middleton, Lauer and Today viewers were left even more intrigued by the 30-year-old beauty.

With reports surfacing that the royal family member could soon be getting a correspondent's deal with Today, the opportunity for Pippa to work with Lauer could only be great practice and experience.

2. Martha Stewart

Whether assisting Stewart in her informative cooking segments or helping the famous chef find love on Match.com, Lauer is always happy to support his good friend on-air.

In addition to a solid friendship, the two also have mutual respect for one another. For instance, Stewart met with the Today co-host for one of her first post-prison interviews.

If there's anything we've learned over the years, it's this: Don't underestimate Stewart. We think she'd do great.

3. Tom Cruise

Who can forget the 2005 interview when Cruise got heated over the topic of psychiatry and the use of medicine to treat mental conditions? "Matt, Matt, Matt … you're glib," the actor famously said.

Although Lauer recently revealed in a Facebook chat that it was one of his most "awkward" interviews ever, the two have moved on without hard feelings. "A bit awkward with Tom Cruise a while back," Lauer shared. "It was one of those unforgettable moments that became a part of pop culture."

4. Ann Coulter

She's the political pundit who's never afraid to speak her mind. And when the best-selling author and conservative columnist sits down with Lauer, fireworks always seem to fly. Whether criticizing 9/11 widows or reviewing the president's latest policies, Coulter has a way of firing up viewers.

Despite some rumors that Coulter is banned from the show, NBC assures viewers she's more than welcome to appear. Whether she's back as a guest or co-host, we wish you good luck, Lauer.

5. Miley Cyrus

The "Wrecking Ball" singer had everyone talking after her Today appearance, but it wasn't for her morning show concert. Instead, fans were buzzing about her interesting answer to Lauer's question about how long fans can expect to see her "sexual side."

"I heard when you turn 40, things start to go a little less sexual," Cyrus said. "Probably around that time — I heard that's when people don't have sex anymore. I guess maybe around then."

Luckily, Lauer had no hard feelings about the interesting convo, telling E! News, "[I] wasn't shocked at all — I thought it was actually really funny."

6. Miss Piggy

We have no doubt this Muppets character would love to co-host with Lauer. During his 10th anniversary special in 2007, Miss Piggy revealed her longtime love for the morning show veteran. "She contacted us and said, 'Please, please, please. I have to be on the show,'" Vieira told Lauer during the ceremony.

Sparks quickly flew when Miss Piggy surprised her admirer by jumping out of a cake and giving him a big kiss. Looks like this pairing could lead to some serious summer lovin'.

7. Kathie Lee Gifford

Perhaps the Today happy hour would like to start a little earlier when Guthrie is on maternity leave. Never one to hide her admiration for Lauer, the co-host of booze-filled fourth hour of Today could add plenty of fun to the early hours of the show.

Granted, 7 a.m. may be a little too early to celebrate Winesday Wednesday or Thirstday Thursday. We can't forget, however, that it is summer.

Today airs weekdays at 7 a.m. on NBC.
