Demi Lovato Is Leaving ‘The X Factor’
UPDATE: Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell confirmed Demi's "X Factor" departure after Wednesday night's top three performance show.
She and I have had our ups and downs but now consider her a true friend. The door will always be open. And thank you Demi. Simon.x

It's déjà vu all over again. Right around this time last year, just before the Season 2 finale, L.A. Reid announced that he was exiting "The X Factor." And now, during "The X Factor" Season 3's finale week, People is reporting that current judge Demi Lovato is leaving the fledgling show after this year.
Demi has not yet made an official announcement, and a source close to the show would not confirm People's report, telling Yahoo's Reality Rocks: "No one from 'X Factor' has discussed next year with Demi." However, the source added, "There are a lot of other conversations happening about new ideas and what the show should be like. There are a lot of conversations happening at the moment with Fox and 'The X Factor' in how going forward would be new and different." (Insert déjà vu flashbacks to the series' massive, "The Hills"-style makeover in Season 2.)
Another show source said it's likely that the entire judging panel would be retooled again for Season 4 (if there is a Season 4, that is). And Simon Cowell, the show's executive producer and main judge, hinted as much on a press conference call earlier this week. While Simon seemed confident that "the show will be coming back next year," he said there would be big changes, including possibly airing only one night a week (like ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance"), another entire new set of judges (insert déjà vu flashbacks to the series' post-Season 1 firing spree), and that he himself might step down as a judge and take on a more behind-the-scenes role.
People reports that the reason Demi is leaving the show is to concentrate on her musical career. Again, total déjà vu: That was the official, politically correct reason given by "X Factor" judges Britney Spears and L.A. Reid — and by former "American Idol" judges Steven Tyler, Mariah Carey, and Nicki Minaj — when they all departed. But maybe the "wacky" onscreen feuding between Demi and Simon wasn't just for show, or maybe Demi just got frustrated than none of her contestants ever made it farther than sixth place. Regardless, she'll still be a part of the "X Factor" family, in a way, since she's going on tour in 2014 with "X Factor U.K." alums Cher Lloyd and Little Mix and "X Factor USA" Season 2 finalists Fifth Harmony.
