This Year's Feel-Good Emmys Story: The Return of Miss Claudette From 'Orange Is the New Black'
Orange Is the New Black hasn't captured any Emmys yet tonight, but the Netflix prison comedy is already the night's big winner, just based on who showed up on the red carpet.
Michelle Hurst, the actress who played stern Litchfield inmate Miss Claudette in Season 1, was seriously injured in a car accident and awoke from a medically induced coma in January. Co-stars Natasha Lyonne and Danielle Brooks took to social media to help raise nearly $25,000 for her medical care. Hurst's recovery meant she couldn't be a part of the show's second season, which debuted in June.
But she made a triumphant return to the spotlight tonight, joining her OITNB castmates Madeline Brewer (Tricia Miller) and Yael Stone (Morello) on the Emmys red carpet. (The first season of OITNB is up for five Emmys tonight, including Outstanding Comedy Series.) Hurst did walk with a cane, but she looked fantastic in a stately black and maroon floor-length dress.

But we already know that Lori Petty is returning for Orange's third season, and her character is in a different prison, too. Could we possibly see Miss Claudette back behind bars at Litchfield in Season 3? Either way, we're just happy to see her back and smiling on the red carpet tonight.
