What a week for television (and it's only Tuesday)! Atop the "Arrested Development" trailer from yesterday, "How I Met Your Mother" fans have been rewarded with the ultimate prize: The Mother has finally been revealed. After eight seasons, viewers were introduced to "The Girl With the Yellow Umbrella" briefly on Monday's season finale.
As for who's behind the most-talked about character on the show (literally), put your hands together for 27-year-old Cristin Milioti, who you've probably not really heard of yet.
We say "probably" for a reason: Milioti has a stacked resume, but unless you saw the Broadway musical "Once" (in which she played "Girl," and earned a Tony nomination for), or saw the indie film, "Sleepwalk With Me," you've likely only seen her playing smaller roles in shows like "The Sopranos," The Good Wife," "Nurse Jackie," and "30 Rock."
Yes, "30 Rock." Not that you'd recognize her in it right away. Guest starring in the 2011 episode "TGS Hates Women," Millioti played Abby Flynn, a female comic who kept speaking in a "sexy baby voice" -- which, it turns out, she'd been using to help disguise herself from a terrifying ex-boyfriend. (Spoiler alert: Liz Lemon exposes her, ruining everything.)
Hopefully, this won't be the case for Millioti's character on "How I Met Your Mother," since a) she ends up marrying Ted in the end, and b) creators of the series plan to draw out Barney and Robin's wedding weekend in Season 9 to the point of (potential) exhaustion.
"Our ninth season will tell the epic story of the longest wedding weekend ever," said "HIMYM" creator Carter Bays in a statement. "We hope you like it. Next stop, Farhampton..."
Yikes. A wedding weekend in itself is usually long enough, but can you handle it for more than a few episodes? It will undoubtedly be the backdrop for the much-hyped Ted-Mother romance -- or at least for fans to really get to know her. Which, since we all know Ted so well already, is probably necessary to balance out eight whole seasons of Bob Saget's voiceovers and Ted's quest to find true love.
What do you think of the choice? And just how emotionally prepared are you for a season-long wedding weekend?
