He's baaack

Jon Stewart returned to "The Daily Show" on Tuesday after taking 12 weeks off over the summer to direct a film in the Middle East.

The show opened with John Oliver — who substituted for Stewart in his absence — finding a still-bearded Stewart in his dressing room. Concerned that "the Middle East has changed him," Oliver enlisted the help of a couple Big Macs and Stephen Colbert to try and Americanize Stewart once again.

As Jon time-warped his way back to us, he tackled a few of summer's biggest stories (like Paula Deen, Anthony Weiner's alter ego "Carlos Danger," and Miley Cyrus's VMA performance) in about 30 seconds.

After Jon got all pressed up in his suit and tie, he finally returned to his desk.

"I've missed you so much," he said. "You don't know what it's like in the real world. Nobody applauds every stupid little f---ing thing that you do."

Stewart then spent the show discussing Syria.

"America taking military action against a Middle East regime," Jon quipped. "It's like I never left."

Stewart also played a clip that showed Secretary of State John Kerry talk about "signatures of sarin gas" in Syria. Naturally, Stewart then launched into a mock commercial for "Signature of Sarin" perfume.

Getting people to laugh about Syria is certainly a difficult task, but we think Stewart delivered.

Good to have you back, Jon!

"The Daily Show" airs Monday through Thursday at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
