At the end of the "Pretty Little Liars" Halloween special — the lead-in to its "Ravenswood" spinoff — Hanna (Ashley Benson) urged her boyfriend, Caleb (Tyler Blackburn), to stay in Ravenswood. Of course, she assumed he would eventually rejoin her.

And they will reunite — once.

Watch the "Pretty Little Liars" Halloween episode "Grave New World":

"Caleb does make an appearance again in the second half of the 'Pretty Little Liars' season for an episode," Blackburn told reporters during a press visit to the spooky New Orleans set.

With "Haleb" headed to splitsville, Miranda (Nicole Anderson) might have been the perfect choice to fill Hanna's shoes (swapping out her designer kicks with combat boots, of course).

Except for the fact that she's dead.

In Ravenswood, however, maybe that's just a technicality? Miranda and Caleb "do have a very strong connection," said Blackburn. And on paper, they seem much more compatible: Unlike Hanna's privileged upbringing, for example, the Ravenswood pair both grew up in foster homes.

"They have a lot of similarities," he added, inside and out. "Even their outlook, their style. ... She wears army colors (forever?), he wears army colors. There's definitely connections."

"They do have so many things in common, and they really understand each other in a way that no one else really can," Anderson said about her character's future with Caleb. "Caleb is sort of the first person that Miranda has been able to honestly lean on and trust, because of where he's come from and been through."

Their relationship is "very, very different" from Caleb and Hanna's. Obviously. "We're trying to just make it as honest and organic as possible so fans can appreciate our relationship," Anderson said. "It's hard because I know that there's so many Haleb fans out there, and I've already kind of mentally prepared myself for the backlash."

If Caleb does get a new girlfriend — whether it's Miranda or someone who happens to be alive — "it will be earned," executive producer Marlene King assured fans. "We can't rip Caleb from Hanna or Hanna from Caleb and not feel that loss and not be on that journey with them."

"That would be a tough transition, especially for the fans," Blackburn said. "But I do feel like it's not going to happen just to happen. It would happen because it's meant to happen. And I think fans would look at that and understand it. I don't think Marlene would just think of this new person for him to be with for no reason, just to have love there."

"Caleb is a very honest person, and I think it would be out of character for him to just fly into another relationship," he said. "I think it might be shocking at first if it happens, but I think the fans would understand."

As for Hanna, when Blackburn was asked whom he'd prefer his longtime love to date next, he joked: "Emily" — Hanna's lesbian bestie. "They're already such good friends — and they're both hot!"

"She can't be with any other guy," he said with a laugh. "Caleb's the only guy for her!"
