'Yahoo at the Awards': Heidi Klum's Instagram Pics Explained
"Yahoo at the Awards" caught up with the newly crowned Emmy winner backstage at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday, where she and her "Project Runway" partner, Tim Gunn, were still reeling from their win for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.
Kristen Aldridge used the opportunity to get the scoop on the inspiration behind Klum's amazing Instagram pics and asked her for the secret to the perfect selfie.
Klum's answer was simple: "You just have to have fun with it," she said. (Easy to say when you have supermodel good looks, eh?)
Tim Gunn agreed: "Just have fun, that's the core of it, don't take it too seriously ... and it's not etched in stone; it can be erased, it can go elsewhere."
Klum's best advice? Don't overthink it. Oh, and take a ton of shots.
"If you see something funny, or something when you look around, you just take a snap of it," she said. "I take a lot of photos, but they don't always make it."
But when Klum does get a great Instagram idea — like this racy tree-hugging shot — it sometimes comes from an unlikely source: her mom. The model revealed that she first took a similar picture of her mom with the palm tree and liked it so much she wanted one of her own.
"I did one picture where I'm hiding behind a palm tree and I'm not having a top on," she said. "I took that photo of my mom before. She was wearing a top, but she was hanging on to the palm tree and I'm like, 'This is such a nice picture of you, Mom, and now I want the same,' so she took it of me. But I took it of her first."
While many of Klum's Instagram pics are done on the fly, one thing she plans way ahead is her Halloween costume. The TV host is a major Halloween buff, and she doesn't stop at costumes for her four kids. (Last year she donnaed a Cleopatra getup that was loaded with Swarovski crystals, and in 2011 she monkeyed around in a monkey costume.)
So what does she have up her sleeve this year? In July she posted a pic of a bizarre blue mold on her face, with the caption "Started working on my Halloween costume! #HeidisHalloween.
"And now she promises: "I have a plan already. It will be really ugly. Superugly ... you'll see."
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre LA Live on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
