‘Glee’ Co-Stars and More React to Cory Monteith’s Shocking Death

Yahoo TV

Hollywood is filled with anything but glee this weekend as celebrities and fans alike learn of the tragic and sudden death of Cory Monteith on Saturday at age 31.

The "Glee" star was found dead in his hotel room at Vancouver's Fairmont Pacific Rim. Officials report that no foul play was involved and that the autopsy is scheduled for Monday. While we wait anxiously for more information about this shocking loss, Monteith's co-stars, friends, and fans have taken to Twitter to share their grief.

Notably absent from those who have posted, however, is Monteith's longtime love, Lea Michele. The pair have not been seen together since the actress posted a photo of her, Monteith, and Jonathan Groff on Twitter on June 18 with the caption, "Me and my two favorite boys." While they were both at a photo shoot for the new season of "Glee" at the end of June, that shoot was bookended by Lea on a pair of vacations with her girlfriends, working on her a solo album in New York City, and spending what appeared to be less time with her man.

Her reps have asked that "everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time." For now, at least she's not alone.

Co-star Lauren Potter tweeted, "I am totally heartbroken right now. I love Cory so much this hurts my heart."

Dot-Marie Jones, who portrays the football coach at the hit show's musical high school, wrote, "I have no words! My heart is broken. Cory was not only a hell of a friend, he was one amazing man that I will hold close to my heart forever."

Kristin Chenoweth, who guest-starred on the hit series, lamented, "RIP CoryMontieth. You will be loved. Always."

For "Glee" cast member, Cheyenne Jackson also weighed in, noting, "What I will remember about Cory Monteith is that he was talented, funny and absolutely kindhearted. We lost a gentleman. RIP."

Josh Sussman, who plays Jacob on the show, praised Monteith's friendly nature. "I am so saddened to hear about Cory. He was such a great guy/Super-kind &warm. A tragic loss. My heart goes out to all his friends & family," he tweeted.

Mark Salling tweeted the most abrupt response with a simple, "no" following the announcement, but deleted the post shortly after.

Jaimie Alexander, who starred with Monteith in the TV series "Kyle XY," wrote, “RIP Cory Monteith. Sweet man…. Gone far too soon. Peace be with you friend.”

Matt Dallas, who was also on "Kyle XY" with Cory, wrote, "So saddened to hear about Cory. One of the sweetest, most fun loving guys. Always remember his ability to make a person smile."

Katie Cassidy shared, "So sad to lose a dear friend & talented man... Cory Monteith you'll always be remembered."

Kevin Zegers tweeted, "I've never lost a friend this close. This feels like a mistake."

Taylor Swift, who was briefly rumored to have been dating Monteith, tweeted, " Speechless. And for the worst reason.”

Actress Sophia Bush wrote, " I saw him a few weeks ago in NY, looking so happy. heartbreaking… #corymonteith."

"Smash" star Katharine McPhee also shared her sadness. "omg. Met this sweet man. RIP."

Musician Lance Bass tweeted his sentiments as well. “Devastated about the news of Cory Monteith – such an incredible guy – my thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Rumer Willis also weighed in. "I am truly saddened to hear about Cory Monteith. What a talented and sweet guy. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones."

Nash Overstreet, whose younger brother Chord Overstreet co-starred with Monteith on "Glee," wrote, “I can’t express how sad & horrible it is to hear about Cory Monteith. One of the best, kindest, guys I’ve ever met.Pray for him, & his family”

Tracie Thoms, who shot a crime drama film with Monteith last year shared, "I hope that was a twitter hoax. Please let it be a twitter hoax. I’ll never retract a tweet more happily… Not a hoax. My thoughts are with his family & the #Glee family. Had the pleasure of meeting him last year in Philly on our film McCanick.”

Even Kylie Jenner shared her memories, tweeting a picture that shows Cory happily sandwiched between her sister Kendall and herself.

Glee on FOX also posted several messages in response to the terrible news, including "We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person" and "He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."
