The Giudices Appear in Court; Released on Bonds, Surrender Passports

Joe and Teresa Giudice arrive in court Tuesday (

This will certainly make a good topic of conversation for the next "Real Housewives of New Jersey" reunion show.

Teresa and Giuseppe ("Joe") Giudice, cast members of the popular Bravo reality show, appeared in New Jersey federal court on Tuesday morning to face the 39-count indictment that was filed against them on Monday by the U.S. Attorney's office. They arrived to a media hoopla, as Joe appeared annoyed by the many cameras present.

They were both released on $500,000 bail and required to surrender their passports. They can only travel in New Jersey or New York. It was brought up in court that Joe is not a U.S. citizen, so if found guilty, he will be deported to Italy.

No pleas were entered and their next court date was set for August 14 at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Joe, 43, was represented by Miles Feinstein of Paterson, New Jersey, and Teresa, 41, by Henry E. Klingeman, Newark, New Jersey. Both attorneys gave an impromptu press conference for media outside of the courthouse following the hearing in which they defended their clients' innocence.

"They maintain their innocence," Feinstein said. "They're supporting each other."

On Monday, the Giudices were charged with 39 counts which included exaggerating their income while applying for loans and then hiding improving fortunes after filing for bankruptcy. The counts include conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, bankruptcy fraud, and making false statements on loan applications.

Bravo has had "no comment" so far on the Giudices situation.
