Eminem, Eastwood, Paul Harvey, and Now... Bob Dylan Pitch for Chrysler
Super Bowl: Bob Dylan Gives All-American Credibility to the New Chrysler 200 (Video)
Some ads go for the humor. Others go for the sentiment. Only a few dare to go for the gravitas. And nobody does it like Chrysler.
As in previous years the car company played up the pro-America angle. But unlike the ads that featured Eminem, Clint Eastwood, and the voice of the late, great Paul Harvey, this year's spot, featuring iconic rocker Bob Dylan, got a split decision on Twitter.
Twitter was full of posts from folks and publications who felt that Dylan and Chrysler had a winner.
Some viewers saw the ad — specifically one line — in a very different light. At one point in the commercial, Dylan says to "let Germany brew your beer, let Switzerland make your watch, let Asia assemble your phone. We will build your car."
For better or worse, the line did not go unnoticed.
That xenophobic Chrysler commercial. Just... Ugh. Disappointed in Bob Dylan.— Courtney Caldwell (@CultOfCourtney) February 3, 2014
That Bob Dylan commercial was racist and xenophobic. Gross.— William Patrick Wend (@wpwend42) February 3, 2014
