As you well know, any reputable crime-fighting organization needs a nerd in the lab. "NCIS" has Abby, "Criminal Minds" has Penelope, "Veronica Mars" has Mac (now that she's getting a movie, she qualifies as an organization). Well, "S.H.I.E.L.D." has two. We know, right? Two? Isn't that overkill? Well, we are talking about an organization that looked at an aircraft carrier and said, "That's great, but what if it had wings?"
Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) does gadgets, which presumably runs the gamut from laser watches to those adorable little copters in the trailer (hopefully there are six more also named after Snow White's dwarfs). Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) does biochem, which presumably runs the gamut from analyzing alien DNA to cloning the X-Babies (a classic X-Men storyline that has been ignored for too long!).

There's not a superhero alive that doesn't like to come home to a nice, soothing British accent (you may recall the old "Flash" TV series or, obviously, the Dark Knight himself, Batman) and this show has two! Well, one British and the other Scottish.
De Caestecker and Henstridge are both recent imports. Caestecker was recently cast in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, "How to Kill a Monster." You know, in case your heart needed another reason to throb.

And we finally have a premiere date: "S.H.I.E.L.D." will be airing Tuesdays at 9 PM starting on September 24, where it will go head-to-head with new comedies "Dads" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" on Fox and "Vampire Diaries" spinoff "The Originals" on The CW. They will all face off against the 800-pound silverback of "NCIS."
