Bobby Brown Sits Down for First Interview Since Daughter’s Passing

In January, Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her home. In July, after spending nearly half a year in a medically induced coma, she died at the age of 22.

On the season premiere of The Real, her father gave his first interview since her passing and talked about the events surrounding it. Brown, when asked if he had ever lost hope, said, “No. We prayed and hoped for six months for something better to happen. But when God calls you, he calls you. And I’m pretty sure her mother was [saying], ‘C’mon, let’s get her up here.’”

Brown, who has experienced a lot of hardship in recent years, gave credit to his wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, for helping him persevere through it. “After losing my mom, my dad, my ex-wife, my daughter in the last six years, it’s been like, you know, the only thing I had to lean on was her,” he said. “And she’s probably tired of me leaning on her, but she’s held me up and she’s got my back. … And anytime I need to lean to the side or lean forward.”

The iconic singer reflected on his daughter’s spirit, “My fondest memory of her is her smile. I mean not just because we have the same smile, her smile and her graciousness with loving people. She was so kindhearted.”
