'Black-ish' Tackles Going to Therapy

On Wednesday’s Black-ish, Dre wrestled with how to handle his anger issues. After a freakout about coupons, Rainbow told Dre that he needed to go to therapy. He fought the notion, saying, “Instead of complaining about our problems, black people have turned 400 years of bottled-up, traumatic stress into gold. Jazz, blues, music.” He even said that people who go to therapy are mentally ill.

After a second explosion about shoes, Dre reluctantly met with Rainbow’s trusted therapist, who quickly exposed some raw nerves about his childhood, leaving Dre on the verge of tears.

He was able to understand the merits of therapy, though, in the end, but he opted to hold on to some of his anger to use as a concealed weapon.

Black-ish airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. on ABC. Watch clips and full episodes of Black-ish for free on Yahoo View.
