‘Black-ish’ Captures How Americans Have Been Feeling Since the Election

Wednesday’s episode of Black-ish took on the tough task of capturing how a lot of people have been feeling since Donald Trump won the presidential election. Most of America was surprised by Trump’s win, and just like many Americans, the people in Dre’s office were trying to figure out what happened.

Review: ‘Black-ish’ is shocked by Trump’s victory

There was a lot of finger-pointing, as some of Dre’s co-workers blamed black people, while others blamed white women. When the one white woman in the room admitted that she voted for Trump, she became an easy target. After explaining that she voted for Obama in a previous election because she wanted change, she said that she voted for Trump for the same reason, saying, “It’s eight years later, my dad’s still out of work, my hometown’s about to go under, and Hillary comes out saying she’s basically gonna keep everything the same.”

The co-workers argued back and forth throughout the episode until Dre couldn’t take it anymore and tried to move his office, and the country, forward together. Dre said, “Do I understand what anybody in their right mind could have seen in Trump? No! But maybe that’s why we lost. Over 50 million people felt something, and I’m not saying that they were right, but I don’t think it’s possible that all, half, or even most of them were nuts, or racist, or sexist.”

Black-ish airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. on ABC. Watch clips and full episodes of Black-ish for free on Yahoo View.
