BET Awards Rocked Prince Tribute Performances

The 2016 BET Awards vowed to give deceased musician Prince a proper tribute, and on Sunday they delivered on that promise. There were several special performances as artists from many generations collaborated to make the award show a night to remember the musical legend. Some of the more notable performances included Bilal nailing a falsetto while rolling around on the ground as The Roots played "The Beautiful One." Jennifer Hudson also brought the audience to their feet with her stirring rendition of "Purple Rain." Maxwell parodied Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares to You," replacing the regular lyrics to honor Prince. "It's been 7 hours and 66 days, since you took your music away," Maxwell sang, "I went to the record to store, I went to Apple and Spotify too. They said boy you better try and make some music but you can't do it because Prince is the truth." But the best tribute performance of the night has to go to Sheila E. The 58-year-old singer played percussion and guitar, she danced like a pop star, and she sang her heart out. At the end of her performance she also shared an emotional moment with Prince's ex-wife Mayte Garcia. The two were arm-in-arm as they lifted Prince's guitar over their heads and pointed to the heavens.
