[WARNING: The following story reveals the winner of ABC's The Bachelorette. Read at your own risk].
After what appeared to be the end of Desiree's journey on The Bachelorette, Desiree was able to move on from her heartbreak over Brooks and realize her love for Chris. But how did she get to that final moment? And proposal? Keep reading to find out about Season 9's two-hour finale.
The episode picks up with Des crying and admitting she was blind-sided and brokenhearted by Brooks' exit. She sits down with Chris Harrison and tells him she wants to go home. Chris asks if she could see herself with either of the remaining men, Drew or Chris, and she says she doesn't know. "I don't want them to feel how I feel; it's not fair to them," she says before deciding she's ready to continue on with the show and see if she can fall further for either guy. Des must also explain to the two why Brooks is not at the rose ceremony.
"Love is unpredictable and it is a two-way street," she says. "So I don't want Brooks' leaving to affect my relationship with you guys. I have two roses and two amazing guys staying before me. When I say your name and ask if you'd like to accept this rose, please let me know."
Since Des isn't ready for her family to meet the men, she takes each of them out on another date. First, Drew and Des horseback ride to the beach. Unfortunately, Des realizes pretty early on that she's not going to fall in love with him. "I would be so lucky to have you in my life, but I don't know if I see our futures together, if I can be 100 percent for you," she tells him. "I guess this is goodbye," a crushed Drew ultimately says.
It's Chris' turn for his date and after reassuring her about his feelings, Des kisses him and finally lights up again. That night they share an intimate evening where the two agree their relationship has progressed to where they want it to be. He also gives her a journal filled with the poems he's written her.
Des also invites Chris to meet her family. Nate, her brother whom we met on Sean's season, immediately peppers Chris with questions. Chatting with Des' dad, Chris asks for his permission to propose. "Yes I give you permission," Des' dad says with no hesitation. After Chris leaves, Nate shares that he's actually supportive of Des if she were to choose Chris.
After Chris meets with Neil Lane to pick an engagement ring, he suits up and meets Des for her final decision. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to be that rock that doesn't break for you," Chris says as he's about to get on one knee. But Des stops him and wants to share some feelings of her own. "I do want to be completely honest and explain where my heart has been this entire journey and where it is today," she says. "I was torn apart by Brooks leaving. I loved him. I feel like ... I was blind-sided by my feelings for Brooks that I couldn't see the one thing I needed was right in front of me. You mean absolutely the world to me. I love you so much." Chris then finally proposes, and Des says yes!
