Anthony Anderson’s Funniest Moments From the Emmy Nominations

Anthony Anderson and Lauren Graham announced this year’s prime-time Emmy nominations, and Anderson did all he could to make a normally dull event a little more fun. He was excited to announce the nomination of his Black-ish co-star, Tracee Ellis Ross, but when his name was read for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Anderson nearly lost it. Graham was barely able to get his name out of her mouth when he interrupted with a very loud, “Woooooo! Hi, mama! I know you’re watching!”

Not only did Anderson bring humor and excitement to the announcements, he also tried preventing the inevitable moment when the television academy chairman comes out to say a few words. It didn’t work, but for the effort alone, he gets our vote to host the actual awards show.

On top of being a great candidate for host, Anderson also makes a great presenter. He’s not embarrassed to admit when he can’t pronounce someone’s name and doesn’t mind a little help. Before reading the name of Tatiana Maslany for her Lead Actress in a Drama nomination, Anderson pulled out a piece of paper and said, “They gave me this name right here phonetically. I’m going to do it. I went to public school in Compton, but I got this.”

The Emmys will be held Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and aired on ABC.
