Andy Samberg had a thing for singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom before he met her.
"He liked her music and would go to her shows," says a pal of the Saturday Night Live alum, 33. "He had the biggest crush on her."
Five years after being introduced by mutual friends, he's still smitten. "They have great chemistry," says the pal about the pair, who prefer quiet date nights at home to late nights out at clubs. "She loves to cook for him."
Newsom, 30, also digs listening to the tracks he creates with comedy troupe the Lonely Island. Though the quirky hits ("I'm on a Boat!") are quite a departure from her indie folk music, "she respects what he does with his songs," says the insider. "She's so proud of everything that he has accomplished."
Including making the heartbreaking decision to quit his Saturday Night Live gig after seven years.
Earlier this month, Samberg opened up to The New York Times about why he chose to leave the show.
"Something about it just feels like it's the moment," he explained. "My contract's up and I did so much more than I ever thought I would ever even do."
