Amy Schumer On Comedy Central Series: ‘We Aren’t Making The Show Anymore’

Is Inside Amy Schumer done? Yes, at least according to series co-creator and star Amy Schumer herself, who tonight appeared to announce that the series has ended in a brief statement on Twitter. “We aren’t making the show anymore,” she said.

The Trainwreck star’s statement came in response to a surging controversy over her professional relationship with writer-comedian Kurt Metzger. Meztger ignited a firestorm this week after a series of tweets in which he mocked and ridiculed women who report sexual assault. Furiously criticized by other comics and fans alike for the comments, particular focus was given to Meztger’s gig writing for Inside Amy Schumer due to the show’s openly feminist themes and Schumer’s comments about women and sexual assault. Meztger is credited as a writer on over 30 episodes of the show.

This led to thousands of tweets aimed at Schumer, demanding to know why she continued to employ Metzger. Schumer publicly condemned him, noting that he is a friend but that “his words are not mine,” and saying that their friendship has been severely damaged by the comments. She also insisted that Metzger did not work for her, saying bluntly “he is not a writer on my show.” This failed to quell the matter however, prompting Schumer to announce the end of her show with this brief statement:

If Schumer isn’t kidding (or venting frustration at fans), the end of Inside Amy Schumer comes despite the fact that Comedy Central renewed the series for a 5th season back in January. Ending the show won’t leave Schumer unemployed of course. The comedian has been extremely busy since breaking out into the mainstream in 2015, and has several projects inbound, among them a supporting role in the feature Thank You for Your Service, due later this year, and is co-starring with Goldie Hawn in Mother/Daughter, which she co-wrote and is set to hit theaters May 12 of next year.

Schumer is also up for four Emmys next month, with nominations for Lead Actress in a comedy for Inside Amy Schumer with the show also nominated for Variety Sketch Series, as well as two other nominations for her stand-up special Amy Schumer Live at the Apollo and for hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live.
