Amy Poehler Snags Her First Emmy, Teams With Tina Fey For Historic Win
Amy Poehler won her first Emmy tonight and made Emmy history with Tina Fey as the first joint winners of the Best Comedy Series Guest Actress derby (or any acting Emmy category). They were feted for team-hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live Christmas episode. It’s Fey’s 9th Emmy trophy and second in the best actress in a comedy series category — she also won in 2009 for her Sarah Palin impersonation on SNL.
The comedy duo bested Big Bang Theory guests Laurie Metcalf and Christine Baranski, Transparent’s Melora Hardin, and fellow SNL guest hosts Amy Schumer and Melissa McCarthy.
Poehler and Fey were no shows, so presenter Bob Newhart accepted on their behalf. Newhart, who also won his first Emmy ever in the guest actor in a comedy series category for The Big Bang Theory three years ago, himself got a standing ovation just for walking out on stage to present. “It’s very nice to be there. It’s very nice to be anywhere, as a matter of fact,” he said. “I’ve led a gifted life, had two successful series….So I don’t have to work another day, for the rest of my life. Unless I want to buy something.”
