Now that September has ended, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is wide awake — and he’s got some big news to share.

In a new interview with NME, Armstrong reveals that American Idiot — the Broadway musical about three frustrated young men looking for meaning in the big city, based on Green Day’s 2004 album of the same name — is being made into a movie for HBO.

“We’ve got a green light from HBO, and the script is currently going through a couple of rewrites here and there,” Armstrong says. “I’m not sure when exactly we’re going to start shooting, but it’s definitely all systems go at the moment.”

Armstrong is also reportedly reprising his role of drug dealer St. Jimmy.

American Idiot ran on Broadway from April 2010 to April 2011, nabbing several awards — including two Tonys and a Grammy — along the way. A series of international productions have opened over the years; the next one begins in Rio de Janeiro in 2017.
