Amazing Singer Crushes Whitney Houston Song on ‘AGT’

On America’s Got Talent, singer Johnny Manuel from Flint, Mich., got a second chance at stardom when he absolutely crushed Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing.” Manuel got a taste of showbiz when he signed with Warner Bros. as a teenager under the stage name Lil’ Johnny. He worked with big-time record producers like P. Diddy and Jermaine Dupri; he toured with Lil’ Bow Wow and NSync; and had a song on the soundtrack for the 2001 film The Brothers. Then it all went away just as quickly as it came.

Now, at the age of 32, Manuel is giving it another shot. It takes guts to cover a Whitney Houston song, and Manuel did not disappoint. He immediately blew away the judges and built on that throughout the performance, hitting every powerful note as in the original before bringing it back down for the soft ending. Manuel got an enthusiastic “Yes” from all four judges and will be moving on to the next round.
