Alec Baldwin is about to host Saturday Night Live for the 17th time! And that’s the new record to beat. Lorne Michaels supposedly has extended a standing invitation to Baldwin to appear every season, should his schedule permit, something Michaels has offered to only one other host — Christopher Walken. Let’s look back at 27 years of Baldwin’s best in Superfan’s five favorite Alec Baldwin SNL sketches…
5. Bill Brasky
This Adam McKay-Will Ferrell classic featuring a gaggle of drunk businessmen reminiscing about their equal parts awful and amazing pal, Bill Brasky, made seven appearances on the show, but it was this first that cemented its place in the SNL hall of fame.
4. Canteen Boy
Adam Sandler had a number of recurring sketch characters, but Canteen Boy was quite possibly the weirdest. And leave it to Baldwin to make an odd sketch into a surreal nightmare.
3. Tony Bennett Show
Baldwin’s done a number of great impressions over the years — Robert De Niro and Charles Nelson Reilly to name two — but his Tony Bennett was so spot-on, it was hard to tell the two apart. I mean, c’mon, which one is which?!
2. Donald Trump
Speaking of impressions, Baldwin’s Trump caricature earned him a Critics’ Choice Award and an honorary position in this season’s cast to lampoon the 45th president. His too-close-for-comfort performance may have hit its peak during an October 2016 parody of the presidential town hall debate.
1. Schweddy Balls
Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon recurred to their NPR send-up, “The Delicious Dish,” over a dozen times, but it was Baldwin as Pete Schweddy who made the fan-favorite sketch shine the brightest.
Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
