After Unknowingly Mocking Conservative With Cancer, ‘Full Frontal’ Apologizes, Deletes Segment

Full Frontal With Samantha Bee had correspondent and senior field producer Mike Rubens cover this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, because as Bee puts it, “These days I have no idea what conservatism means, so I sent Mike Rubens to CPAC to find out.”

Rubens noticed a sea change in the crowd at this year’s conference, mainly in the hairstyles of President Trump’s supporters, something that he referred to as “Nazi hair.”

But Rubens’s footage unknowingly included Kyle Coddington, a young journalist, who according to OUTSET magazine, “recently completed his first round of chemotherapy and radiation.”

Coddington responded to the report on Twitter:

Coddington is a contributor to OUTSET, a publication “on politics and culture from the next generation of conservative and libertarian voices”, and they urged Bee to make an apology to Coddington “for this sick attempt at a joke.”

Other Twitter users joined in the cause for Coddington, shaming the series for their insensitivities. And Full Frontal made a formal apology on the social media platform:

Mike Rubens has also responded on Twitter:

The clips from Rubens’s piece have since been removed from YouTube.
