'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: Tracy Morgan's Brian Fellow Loves All Creatures (Not)

Laughter really is the best medicine. This weekend, Tracy Morgan returns to his old Saturday Night Live stomping grounds to host the show for the first time since recovering from critical injuries he received in a deadly car accident.

It’s taken the comedian over a year to get back to performing. He made a surprise appearance at the Emmys last month, and has done a few stand-up gigs in New York City. Now, Morgan returns to the place that launched his career — Studio 8H.

In his seven years at SNL, Morgan embodied many memorable characters, but perhaps our favorite is Brian Fellow, the host of “Brian Fellow’s Safari Planet.” Brian is not an accredited zoologist, “simply an enthusiastic young man with a sixth grade education.” And though he purports to love all of God’s creatures, well, his actions say otherwise.

In this clip from 2002, the flamboyant Fellows can barely tolerate the animals brought on the show. He calls a parrot a liar and impostor for squawking the phrase “I am Brian Fellow.” Even when the episode’s host, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson,” shows up with a tarantula, Brian just can’t get his bird nemesis out of his mind.

We’re crossing our fingers that Morgan reprises the role when he hosts. Tune in to see him and musical guest Demi Lovato this Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
