'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: A Holiday Treat for One and All

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and that means it’s time to re-watch one of the most wonderful holiday bits that Saturday Night Live has ever done.

Back in 2000, Horatio Sanz, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Kattan, and Tracy Morgan teamed up to sing the original SNL song “I Wish It Was Christmas Today.” Wearing festive sweaters, with fake snow falling from the rafters, the foursome bopped along to Sanz on mini guitar and Fallon on an old-school Casio keyboard.

They reprised the number just a year later, this time with a string band as introduction. Again, the hilarity lies in the simpleness — Kattan’s non-stop head swiveling, Morgan’s facial expressions, Fallon’s terrible haircut, and Sanz’s oh-so-serious guitar riffing. And the dinosaur noises!

Since then, they’ve brought back “I Wish It Was Christmas Today” several more times, the last in 2011 when Fallon hosted the show. The song has become a classic, right up there with Adam Sandler’s original SNL holiday tunes. Cue it up, spike some eggnog, and spend the holiday laughing with loved ones.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good (Saturday) night!

Saturday Night Live returns Jan. 16 with host Adam Driver.
