16-Year-Old Cancer Survivor Earns Golden Buzzer on 'America's Got Talent'

When 16-year-old Calysta Bevier auditioned for America’s Got Talent, she was more than an aspiring singer, she was an inspiring contestant, as she revealed to the audience that she’s a survivor of stage 3 ovarian cancer.

After her mother noticed a lump on her stomach a year ago, Bevier began her difficult battle with the disease. Throughout her treatments she stayed positive by listening to music and singing. “Singing makes me feel happy. That’s really the only word I can fit to — singing. And on August 28, they told me I was in remission,” said Bevier, adding “That kinda motivated me to want to do more with singing.”

Bevier performed Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” and received a standing ovation from the audience. Judge Simon Cowell was impressed with her performance, saying, “I predict great things are gonna happen for you.” In fact, Cowell liked her performance so much that he used his golden buzzer to send her straight through to the live shows.

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
