13-Year-Old Opera Singer Stuns Judges on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Season 11 of America’s Got Talent premiered on ABC Tuesday night. While there were loads of talented, and not-so-talented, people who auditioned, 13-year-old opera singer Laura Bretan was by far the best.

Bretan performed “Nessun Dorma,” which coincidentally is the same song sung by Britain’s Got Talent star Paul Potts. Like Potts, Bretan didn’t have the appearance of someone who could handle such a well-known and complex piece, but also like him, she did.

Simon Cowell was so impressed by her performance, he said, “I have never heard anything like that in all the years I’ve been doing this show. Seriously, it was unbelievable.”

Mel B was even more impressed than Cowell. In fact, the Spice Girl was so enthralled by the teen’s performance that she hit her golden buzzer to send Bretan directly through to the live shows.

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
