11-Year-Old Does Texas Proud in Barbecue Cook-Off on ‘Chopped Junior’

On Chopped Junior, 11-year-old, Kenzie Mills of Midlothian, Texas, brought bold hometown flavors to a North Carolina barbecue sauce by thickening it up with ketchup and corn syrup because Texas barbecue sauce is a little more on the sweet side. If there’s one thing we know, it’s that Texas loves corn syrup — and the judges were not mad about it.

After Kenzie proved Texas barbecue sauce was the most superior (just kidding, you guys — settle down), she went on to dazzle the judges in the dessert round with a halloumi and barbecue sauce trifle with a blackberry whipped cream.

Kenzie hoped to dazzle the judges by baking her “butt off,” and it looks like she might be buttless now because her performance won her $10,000 and she’ll get to be a judge in an upcoming episode. I’d say that kicks some serious barbecue butt.

Chopped Junior airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on Food Network.
