Diogo Morgado Is the Man: 'The Messengers' Star Takes Over Yahoo TV's Instagram

So this next picture is the first time we lay eyes on "The Man" in #themessengers. Shooting this epic scene was not easy.... a lot of stuff going on with different departments working together. The special effects team working on that smoke coming out of the ground, the camera department, visual effects making marks to be used later for post-production, the lighting department making sure we were moving as fast as we could so as not to lose that sun... Oh.... And... ME, #naked in the sun after a 4 hour make-up process. Everything to make sure we would creep the heck out of you in this unforgettable shot and introduce you to this character. -- @diogomorgado #TheMan @themessengerscw

Stephen Williams was our first director (that's him on the ground right there with me.) He was tremendous, I love the way everything looks so real and raw. I think it adds the sense of drama and scale that we need in a show like this. I'm an actor of awareness, I need to know exactly how a shot is gonna be in order to be fully free when I'm doing it. The reason for that is there's no point of doing something the camera is not going to capture... or doing something way off scale, like a huge body move for a close up shot of your face. Stephen got that in me immediately, so he made sure I was fully aware of what was going to be shot every step of the way. -- @diogomorgado #TheMessengers #TheMan

This was actually my first scene to film, on my very first day of shooting the Pilot for @themessengerscw. Not only was the pressure on, but anything could've happened because this is a character with an enormous range of how he can talk and move. His importance is crucial t the plot, so to nail that first impression was crucial too, and this was going to be not only the first time we would fully see him, but also feel him And so I found it very interesting that it was also going to be my first time performing that sinister and mysterious being. -- @diogomorgado #TheMessengers #TheMan

âWelcome to my trailer, or should I say "The Man's Cave"?!?! Anyway, nothing special about it, except for the fact that this is the place I hung out the most while we were shooting #themessengers this season. So yes it has a TV, yes it has a bathroom with a shower, yes it has a nice couch, and definitely a door. Checked LOL. -- @diogomorgado #TheMan

Toooooo much down time... that's what I would call this picture. Once upon a time a bored actor said to their fellow companions "Hey do you know how to balance a bottle on your forehead??" And this is what happened with me and my castmates @ogradster and Madison Dellamea. What's the point?? Nothingâ. Was it fun?? Absolutely. Fun fact? For me "The Man" is someone who embraces the human condition as being beneath him. He despises humanity, yet at the same time he loves it. He feeds his ego off the weaknesses, fears, and doubts of others, and he has fun with all of those while proving his point. But it's more than that, there's a plan going on. "Nothing is random" he says, and it's true. Sometimes we are going to see him in places and situations thinking we know why is he there.... it turns out the plan is way higher than what we thought, like in this picture, where he seems to be consoling a widow at a funeral... Man's" details.... they say the Devil is in the details, so I did try to do that, literally. Except for the 1st episode, every time The Man is on screen he will have a small detail, like a special button, or a pin or a necklace, or a bracelet, No matter the "disguise" he might be in, he will always will have something different, like a symbol of his devilish nature. -- @diogomorgado #themessengers

Another one of the things I tried to achieve with this character of #TheMan in @themessengerscw, as you will see throughout the season, is his sense of humor. It wasn't necessarily something that was in the script, but in order to make him real and multidimensional I made him have fun. The thin line between knowing if he's having fun of just using that humor to deceive people, that's the balance I kept bringing to "The Man." This picture is from an upcoming episode, which was one of the most challenging episodes for "The Man," and for me as an actor. Everything he is, all of his tools and plans are gonna come up in this tremendous episode of #themessengers. -- @diogomorgado

A great project is only possible as the result of having a great team, and the reason I know we have a great series in @themessengerscw is because I know we have a great team. Everyone involved was exactly that... Involved. Here in this picture, our Director of Photography John, my partner in crime @therealshantel and I are laughing while we were talking about the show, and how interesting and out of the box it is. Sometimes the best idea for a scene comes just from someone holding the camera, and that's how you know you have a great team. Hi guys @diogomorgado here. I play "The Man in the new #CW series @themessengerscw, which is premiering TONIGHT! Thanks for joining me on my @yahooTV instagram takeover. OK, so this first picture is from a very important day for me and for "The Messengers" because this was the very first day we all read the first script together. Even when we were shooting the pilot we only would work with the actor that was in that scene. But this was the actual first time we sat together and read everything as a group, as a cast, as a whole show... before we ever filmed the first shot.. #themessengers

Diogo Morgado is the man — literally. The actor plays The Man in the CW’s new drama series, The Messengers, a part that’s a definite departure from his role as Jesus Christ in the 2013 miniseries The Bible. But while his character is an antagonist on the new pre-apocalyptic thriller, in real life Morgado is a really nice guy. Not only did he take over Yahoo TV’s Instagram account to share some gorgeous pics from the set, but the actor went into great detail as he gave us some insight into his character on the new show.

From a photo of his very first table read (with co-stars Shantel VanSanten, J.D. Pardo, Jon Fletcher, Sofia Black-D’Elia, and Joel Courtney), to an epic special effects shot that features him naked in the sun after four hours of makeup, this is one of our most detailed takeovers yet. Morgado was very focused on nailing that first impression of his sinister character, as he explains in a pic from the show’s pilot. He even drops us an “exclusive” tip to look at the details when it comes The Man, teasing that there will always be a symbol of his devilish nature.

Of course, not everything is super serious on this set. Morgado and his castmates indulge in a bit of bottle balancing during their down time, and we also get a sneak peek into The Man’s cave… aka Morgado’s trailer. Click through to see all of Morgado’s snaps from The Messengers.
