Will Travel For Hookup: New York Ladies Look For Love in San Francisco This Weekend

It was only a matter of time. The single women of New York are finally vacating the city due to the fact that there are just no men left to date. The ratio of single women to men in New York City is 53 percent to 47 percent (not in the ladies’ favor) and the numbers just get worse if you start quantifying quality.
The ladies of NYC are sick of the modelizers, the commitment-phobes, the man children and the closeted cowboys of Gotham and they are hopping a plane for greener pastures, or more accurately hillier pastures. And apparently, the men in San Francisco are just as desperate… for women. As the HBO show, “Silicon Valley,” continually points out, the XX chromosomes are needed out on the West Coast.
This weekend, a dating service called The Dating Ring is transporting 16 women from New York to San Francisco with the sole purpose of setting them up with San Fran’s “surplus” of single men.
"If you have been single for a few years then it isn't crazy to start looking for options in another city," Dating Ring founder Lauren Kay told Yahoo Travel. Kay, 24-years old, moved from New York to San Francisco for work back in December. When she left New York she was single. Now...not so much.

Kay believed so intensely in this mission to help New York women hook up on the other coast that The Dating Ring launched a crowd-funding campaign to get the women across the country. Here’s how they explained it on their Crowdtilt page.
"There are tons more single women in NYC, and tons more single men in SF. And, see, the two cities are only separated by a bunch of crappy airports, flight delays, and cheap roundtrip flights.
So, we started joking about doing some cross country matchmaking. And you know what they say – make a joke 12 times and it becomes a Crowdtilt. So, America, let’s make this happen.”
The campaign raised enough money to get the women across the country on United Airlines. They will be paying for their own hotels.
The weekend is chock full of exciting activities. The gaggle of gals flies in on Thursday. Thursday and Friday evening they will go on organized (and strategically plotted) one-on-one dates. There will be a big party on Saturday night and then a boozy picnic on Sunday.
